I really enjoy these headphones. They have very good detail and lovely midrange.

I wish I can have a pair of speakers that sound very much like the K701. In terms of similar Midrange, vocals and detail etc.

Thanks,

S.

I bought akg k702 because they sounded sonicly very similar to Adam a7 studio monitors. They are near-field and positioning was unbelievable , details were stunning too .

What are the best headphone amps for the AKG K701?

I've been reading on here that the heed canamp goes very well with the K701.

amps like the HeadRoom Micro/Heed/ Gilmore Lite are terrific for the AKG's.

darkvoice tube amps are also known to make them sing.

I've heard lots of folks say the k701s like tubes, but to my ears, my k701s sound better out of the headphone amp on my lavry da10 than out of any of the several tube amps i've tried with them.

be sure you've got a good DAC to unleash the k701's huge soundstage.

Wow. The Gilmore Lite is good for the K701/702's? I have not heard this before. I had the impression that it did not have enough juice to power the AKG's effectively. Anyone else experience this apparent synergy?

I like my Shanling PH100 doesn't cost a lot and the sound is great to my ears. The build quality is up there with the best at any price.

How about Burson HA160?

Check out this review at 6Moons.
6moons audio reviews: Burson Audio HA-160

The reviewer thinks it's (HA160) one of the best amps for AKG 702/701.

You may also check AKG 702 review, where the same reviewer reinforced it again in his closing that:

Quote:
Final comments & suggestions: [AKG 702] Demands top quality amplification with drive and painfully long break-in. Essentially a studio monitor spoon-fed on neutrality and resolution, not an editorializing home hifi design. Properly driven, it is not however a flat, dull, uninvolving sound at all. It simply needs muscular amplification of high caliber. The €499 Burson Audio HA-160 is just perfect.
I don't know if it's really one of the best amp for 701, but I do have one and all I can say is my 702 sounds great with it.

X1, the Adams sounds very similar even the near/mid filed S3A have a similar sound stage and extend to 32Hz-35kHz. The sound it's very smooth with depth in high resolution and very dynamic.

Many have good experience with Gilmore Lite and K701/2.

haven't you heard of the K701 speaker mod? Just attach multiple layers of saran wrap over the woofer to kill that annoying bass and full midrange, and give you a nice plastic resonance, leave the tweeter alone, and then turn up the volume. Works great!

Soon I might fancy going Stax.

When the day comes when I'm able to afford, my budget will be able to afford the new Basic Stax system, or the next model up.

How does the Stax gear sound compare the K701?

Shane.
