I read somewhere on the DAC-19MK3 thread that with speakers its hard to hear differences between dacs, is this true?
I think that comment was made because said speakers were $50.

What gear are you using? If it's entry level then you might wanna consider just getting better cans/speakers first and then get a better DAC later

It depends on the resolution level of your speaker system which means preamp/amps/cables/sources the whole ball of wax. If it's mid fi at best you may have trouble distinguishing differences between pieces of gear but most well engineered , well executed designs will lift any system in the right direction.

As always system synergy plays an important role as does setup of the speakers, the room, and finally the source material quality.

So many variables with traditional 2 channel it's no wonder head fi is popular as doing a room right (and the system installed in that room) is no easy walk in the park.

Peete.

I own elac bs 123 with myryad 2080 amplifier and sennheiser 595. I want to replace my current source xonar d2x (that i consider to be the weak link in my system) with DAC-19 DSP, but i don't know how much of improvement i will notice and maybe it will be better to change my speakers for example.

ps. I dont know if should i get the board for PMD100 chip.

holy banana that should be quite a jump. Have a chute ready!. Enjoy it!

if its not that expensive i will get the board for pmd100 chip to try it later.
i have a stupid question. from what I read if you want to replace dsp mode with PMD100 you need to solder unsolder something, can be this made with a switch? because I am not a DIY person. will the switch effect the sound quality in any way? and can I ask Kingwa to do this? tnx

I asked Audio Gd's UK retailer AmpCity ( AmpCity - The UK's headphone amp specialists - Audio Gd DAC 19DSP ) if I could demo one, they let me have it for a couple of days and immediately took the plunge after the week. I just couldnt bear to give it back lol

.... Am using it with the HiFiMan HE-5/EF5 combo that I bought of them, and my word is it stunning!! Can listen for 3-4 hours with nothing else on around me and am in bliss lol... The detail and clarity over the DacMagic which I had previously is huge....

Someone said a review needs to be done for this. After a few weeks I might try and give it a shot; never written one before but wouldnt mind giving it a go.

wow thank you for the link, I didn't know there was an European retailer for Audio GD! I have a DacMagic atm so you must know your words got me very excited.

Really useful link indeed. I recently got a Roc from Kingwa, and I've been lucky with customs, but my next purchase will be through AmpCity for sure.

^^ Yh no problem.... emailed them first to make sure they were legit, and they said they were new and had just signed with Audio Gd.

Was cool of them to let me demo the DAC so definitely will be going back to them... am eyeing that Reference Seven lol ... must resist

I wonder how big is the difference between the DF1704 version and the DSP1.

I will upgrade my DAC soon but I don't want to invest too heavily on a new DAC, so I'm interested in the DAC19.

My guess since i have not heard them both, would be that it wouldn't make that big of a difference, the dsp1 is supposed to help with jitter alot, but the jurry is still out on whether or not we can even hear it. I would say that since you're not trying to invest a whole bunch anyways that you should just get the df1704 version

You know I'm just interested in the DSP1 a lot. I just want to see if it is worth the $200+ price difference.
