When I listened to the sound for the 1st time, I was hit by it. I was punched by the not-punchy-bass. I was hoping it would offer much better bass response than SE315.. equals to Klipsch Image...

HiFiMAN HE400
By now I think most of us are familiar with the history behind the HiFiMAN HE-series headphones. What started with a single model has grown into a full...
I was in Japan and was looking at headphones to buy. I had a cheap budget of about 4000 yen or circa $40. I bought this headphone because it was on sale for $30 and was very good looking. It was...
Gonna throw the ES7 into the mix. I've always been impressed on how well it can deliver the bass yet still remain quite clear throughout rest of the spectrum.
Couldn't agree more. The ES7 has been the Diamond in the rough that I stumbled on by accident.
The cheapest headphone with really good bass and clarity is the PortaPro I think.
Is there a different answer other than the ES7's if I don't need them to be portable?
Also, do the ES7's go completely over/around the ear?
No they don't. They are on ear. For an over the ear you might look into the M50. They are nicely detailed with good bass. The ES7 brings a much more forward presentation though. Very energetic.
OK cool... I'll check those out as well. I don't need them to be portable, and would prefer something that is completely over the ear... for comfort reasons. If the ES7's are really better though in the bass department (despite being smaller and portable), I would rather get those.
anyone know which (the M50s or the ES7s) will give me better bass?
as we were talking about earlier, i have a set of Sennheiser HD280's and I don't feel the bass is good enough on it. so i am kind of hesitant to get another "monitor" headphone, especially since it seems that both of them have very similar response curves.
As the satisfied owner of a HD428 I can state the HD428 is more neutral and although light on bass, bass is there when you need it. With a Fiio E5 your bass will get more impact and sound thicker. I tested that on my Clip + but I still prefer my HD428 without amplification until I hear better.
With a decent burn in the HD428 will loosen up and house will sound better although still with a neutral sound. The HD428 involves you yet is nice to your ears. I also have the MDR V6, much flatter and prone to make you a bass head. The V6-es were my first headphones and except for the bass and sony sound, the HD428 has almost replaced it for daily listening.

If you are not amping either headphone, the ES7 beats it handily. They thump pretty well unamped. the M50 picks up a bit with an amp, but I still think as far as impact goes, they fall short of the M50.
But the ES7 is definitely not a over the ear headphone.
I am looking into buying a pair of these myself. i actually posted my first thread just now too!
but i read ALOT of good reviews about these theyre $115 on ebay. you might be able to find them cheaper elsewhere but ive read these are a great deal and GOOD bass
+1 for the M50's. solid phones. price matched some at guitar center today, they are impressive phones, and i cant wait to get them burnt in proper. but they do benefit from some amping.
