Quicktime is a framework much like the total of Flash. That analogous part would be the .mov container that can have multiple open standard (h.264) or proprietary (.qvr) format files. MP4 is the international standard equivalent iirc. At any rate, point taken. It just stuck in my craw because not everything internet related Apple does is 100% open standards though they have come a long way. The only company that comes close is Google.

There are already a lot of out of print books available as eBooks. You also have Google Books FWIW. Self publishing has already grown thanks to Amazon.

exactly. long story short, a non-IT co-worker sent the link along to me thinking it was the bees knees when I mentioned to her I was looking forward to the iPad. One of our suppliers sent her the link hoping we'd put in an order. I loled.

The iPad sails the failboat, plain and simple. I will not be buying one, and I'll probably actively mock those I know who do. That's pretty ironic coming from an enthusiastic consumer of Apple products, no?

We have to give apple the credit for their technology and the speed and the responsivness of the screen,No other company has achieved this till now, even htc with it's 1ghz chip, still not as speedy or good as apple devices.there is alot of debat about this device but I think that it will be a huge success and alot will buy it even me I may pull the plunge on it.

Thanks for this awesome link - I guess some of those people regret ever making those comments, in hind sight.

The iPod separated itself from the competition because of the iTunes Store. Remember that the only competition at the time was through illegal means. The iPad doesn't really have that edge, given the Kindle and its eBook store already exists (assuming that's the main reason users will buy this).

I personally don't see a need for an iPad. It's too big to be a truly mobile device like the iPhone, it's probably not superior to e-Ink for eBooks (although I'd need to demo it to be sure), and the lack of multi-tasking and Flash right now is a real deal-breaker for me. At least an OSX version would have allowed for both of those, as well as running any OSX app I wanted.

it may not be as open as some of the other tablets, but when it comes down to it, id rather have a fast and responsive tablet thats not quite as capable, than something that can do anything i want, but the touch screen is slow and it reacts poorly to everything im trying to do, which is the impression ive gotten from every other tablet, most other "smart" phones as well. All of them are clunky as hell when compared to the iPhone, thats why i stick my the iPhone, it works and does what i want it too.

I just want them to get more publishers on board

Sometimes it feels good to tell people to their faces that – at least as far as you're concerned – they've wasted their money.

Don't worry, I don't plan on doing any of that here. I've said my piece.

in 1 year, they'll be wasting more money for the iPaid 2G paying $600 more for the missing webcam that every netbook have since 2 years ago ...

I suspect that the iPad will go through a growth process with many revisions and generations. Apple needs to get a foothold in the market first. Afterwards it is a matter of monitoring market reception and feedback. I don't think I will get a Gen 1 iPad. I am going to wait for the 2nd or 3rd gen or even longer. Good things come to those who wait. Plus it will be cheaper.

I will be able to judge it after a hands on not until then but it does look interesting.

Are we watching the same videos? Why even put multitouch on something like this if its not going to work seamlessly. Those video demos were horrible. I'd rather just keep with an affordable netbook then suffer that.

I agree that did not put fear in any of the competition for touchscreen.
