ipod no sound

I have a 30gig ipod video 5g

recently the battery dead. I order on from ebay and it came today

i popped open the ipod and successfully install the new battery
i charged it for 6 hours and it's full. check the sound and no sound even on highest volume, and tried 4 different headphones. i notice that the hold button is dead too. on hold i can still operate the ipod.

is it the headphone jack that is dead?

I believe your old buddy is telling you to get a newer model. Sounds like your Pod is beat.

it could be a few things, did you plug in the headphone ribbon back in correctly? they're both connected via the same cable

if you did then maybe you damaged it when removing the battery

edit: heres a link to rapidrepair's guide
