Want to trade Sony D 335
I have had this unit for a long while and it just does not get the use it deserves. I’m on the fence as to whether to let it go or keep it, as I will probably never find another. This ad is a feeler of sorts to see if it is worth it to let it go. I love trying out new headphones so I would be willing to trade for some full sized headphones , the usual culprits AKG,Grado, Sennheiser etc… or the grado gr8’s or a headphone amp. My unit is a 9-10 aesthetically and 10 function wise, everything works. I have the original remote, case and wal wart and it will come with a padded case as well.
I stole this description from filberts ad when he was selling his as his description of the player is way more eloquent than anything I could come up with. I agree with everything he said re the sound of the player.
“Sound wise, it's very neutral, but has very nice detail and a rather unique level of instrument articulation, particularly on the periphery. Of the 25 or so portables I've had around me, this one has the most distinctive sound to it. The thing I really like about it is that it manages to resolve well and bring out satisfying detail without resorting to really any accentuation of parts of the audio band. I recommend pairing it with headphones on the brighter, more aggressive side as it synergises well with those IMHO. Form factor wise, it's similar to the D-465. The headphone out is fairly powerful as far as vintage PCDPs go; somewhere around the strength of the D-35. It's more powerful than the D-465's along with several of my other portables. So it's around normal for a high end Sony of its vintage I guess (1994). It's also more detailed and refined sounding than the D-465. It isn't as bright, but it articulates the greater detail it has in such a way that it ends up sounding clearer and less congested to me, overall (and it has a superior soundstage, IMHO). I also found it more detailed than something like a D-33 and maybe my D-35 as well in some ways. It really manages to win me over with its distinctive ability to bring out the rhythm of my prog rock/metal really well. Line-out is similar to the headphone out, except with maybe slightly less slam but wider soundstage, more detail, and more air. I find both outputs very enjoyable. I tried pairing this with kramer5150's RS1s while listening to Dreamtheater's 'Awake' and really enjoyed it (this was out of the headphone out). It kept the RS1s from getting harsh while maintaining their aggressive character with nice detail.”
