RE252 takes the best from ER-4S and RE0 - Page 4

agree on personal preference, for me, it would be pk1>re0>re252 overall. after both res, pk seem veiled, lack finest details on top end, but are more natural, bigger sounding, almost can feel air moving.

RE0>PK1 for me. More detail, punch and speed. Deeper and better controlled bass. Cheaper price and some noise isolation (also nice for watching movies on the plane). Narrower soundstage in head, though.

I occasionally like to switch from RE0 to PK1 for a different feel and more relaxed sound signature. In absolute terms, the PK1 is still cheap and tiny. So why not carry that too as spare or alternative.

Update Apr 10, 2010: I changed the tips to smaller sizes and this allowed me for a deeper fit. Wearing RE252km over the ears (cables up), I've got a perfect seal. Bass became fuller, highs are softer while still detailed. No more "a bit thin" sound with iPod 5.5gen - the frequency response is ruler flat. I am happy as a clam now! I may listen to my beloved iPod 5.5gen un-amped.

Yep. It took a little bit for me to get a solid seal. I ended up hacking up a large Comply T-500 tip, cutting off the end so it didn't block sound (helps from soaking up some highs too. I would normally use a medium with my TF10, but because of the shallow insertion (still with gummies) with the Comply half as long after cutting it up to the nozzle, the large made it work.

how do the RE252's compare to MTPC's? I started reading this and now I'm interested, my wallet is starting to frown....

You should try RE252 with inline resistor too. Bass is deeper and weightier, mids are smoother, highs are slightly tamed. Overall sound is more warmer and laid back, closer to SA6 signature.

The MTPC is not on par with stock RE-252. The only thing it does better is balance, otherwise, the 252 walks all over it in every other aspect. (I'm ignoring fit and looks however. 252 fits me perfectly, but it does not for some people, then the Monsters are blingy in looks whereas 252 is just bizarre, lol.)
I do highly recommend the Monster gel Supertips for RE-252, though.

Where may I buy Monster gel tips?
You can buy the gel tips from monster but I would bet it would be crazy expensive shipping from USA to Russia easily to the point where it wouldn't be worth it.
Good question. Try emailing Monster, I have the MTPC's and the supertips don't fit me with the Monsters but they fit me perfectly with the 252 (probably because of the gummy enclosure).
It improves sound stage and gives bass a small boost in presence not to mention more bass detail and generally more definition all throughout. Not a big difference, but it is very nice and I like better than any of the stock tips, Complys, Sony hybrids, and some other miscellaneous tips I have.

Edit: Russia, oops, that may come out rather expensive.

I've done that with some earphones. I have a feeling it's more an amping effect than earphone.

I've only found the sound of the RE252 thin when the seal wasn't air tight.

I am sure this affects both sides. With regards to the earphone side, this helps to smooth out the dynamic resistance, thus altering the frequency response and some other audible aspects.

x2. Any other cases were definitely the source faults, like with capacitor-coupled headphone out of old iPod, which is known for bass roll-off with low impedance cans (RE252 is 16 Ohm).

How's dynamic range on the RE252? I find the RE0 too be too compressed sounding for some music.

RE252 is certainly less compressed.

That's great to hear. How does RE252 compare to SE530 in dynamic range? Those are the most dynamic IEMs I've heard to date - really explosive when necessary.
