Teradak Teralink-X2 released 19.1.10 - Page 25

I took that to mean that the DAC was getting bit-perfect and the signal wasn't being resampled to a constant frequency. Like if I was playing a 44.1khz song and switched to a 48khz song and the DAC clicked, that tells me that it switched and the DAC saw that switch.

But now I'm thinking that the source, depending on the circuit, switches the SPDIF signal on/off to change the sample rate.

Oh no.  many DAC's do not make any noise/click when changing sampling rates but still offer the correct sample rate.

Do we have anybody else planning on modding the unit?

After using it for almost 2 days, I have 2 non-issues to report:

I purchased from AB Systems on eBay and inside my unit, there's 3 caps all in a row. On the eBay listing these show as silver & blue "solid" caps but inside my unit, they're Sanyo Oscon. Not really bad but I thought I would mention it. I've also sent an e-mail to AB Systems about it.

Also, I was gaming and after I closed the game Windows told me that the USB bandwidth had been exceeded or something (I should have taken a screenshot) but I've never gotten this before owning the Teralink. The sound never failed or quit and I do have 6 or so USB devices and have since disconnected 2 unless I'm using them and have had no issues since.

@ROBSCIX, depending on the mods, I may try something. I was going to rig up a power supply and have everything except for a barrel plug. None of the ones I have would fit =\

Hi Spanky, I also got an AB System version Teralink X2 and inside my unit, your mentioned caps are Chemi-Con PS type. However, as far as I know, the price of Sanyo Oscon is higher than Chemi-Con.......You may got an unit with better parts!

BTW, did you compare the performance of original X2 with the moded version?

Yes, Os-Cons are considered good caps for audio work.  Wait, did you order a modded unit or is it stock?

As for the power, I will look and see where I ordered mine from.  It is a 9-Volt battery snap with the right barrel on it.

I will get back to you on the location.

Edit, it is a 5.5 X 2.1mm barrel jack -Center positive.

I'm using the A&B Systems moded version and also have an original version (will be sent for modding soon).

For battery power, I've tried using 6xAA pack to feed the unit. However, the result is not that encouraging. You will get a silent background with silky vocal, but the cost is lost of music dynamic.

jean-paul(who's quite a DIY guru) said that Oscon should be avoided for audio: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/chip-amps/154106-best-sounding-audio-integrated-opamps-37.html#post2162401

OSCON in audio = bad sound.

It is my understanding that those caps are quite good for PSU ripple smoothing, but not for audio...now to know what they really do on your board?

^ That's quite a statement.

I built a DAC with 6 Sanyo OS-CON caps around the AD1865NK. It's actually an excellent cap.

Those aluminum solid capacitors are using in the voltage regulator part.

well, there's an old myth that solid caps are terrible for audio...reason why many ppl prefer those Nichicon Gold I presume, but yes for PSU filtering they seem to be an excellent choice.

Cousin could you please tell us, how is the sound of the moded X2 Vs Original ?

My brother agreed to take over my original unit after listening to my CAS setup, I therefore decided to try the A&B Systems version. We did a AB comparison once received the moded version.

First of all, I'm also using the Teradak Linear PSU as it plays very important part on improving the soundstage.

We found the moded version has big improvement over the original one (at least 25%~30%, in my opinion), especially on the density and dynamic aspects. We really impressed by its richer vocal and the speedy & solid bass. Relatively, the original version sounds thin and bright, especially on the mid to high areas.

Finally my brother took the moded version! I am now negotiating with A&B Systems regarding the charge of modding my original version that bought from another seller from Taobao.com in March.

JulioCat2, saw from your signature that you got some Audio-gd gears.

One of my friends also have a set of Audio-gd gears including DAC8, C8 and 2xSA100B. I've tried the X2 at his home but cannot get it work properly. Some "sa....sa...." noise came out from the left channel, we think that may be the DAC8 could not lock the signal successfully.
