Need help with speaker room placement

Hello guys, I have a pair of Wharfedale diamonds 10.1 with their original stands, but need help knowing where to place them in my dorm room. Basically, i use my desk all the time, but the desk is pushed against a wall, so my only option is to place them near the sides of my desk. Problem is that there is my roommates' desk on the left of mine, which means the second speaker must sit on the left side of his desk, which basically kills the sound. Also, the desks are much higher than the stands themselves, and even with the speakers placed on them, only the tweeter rises above the desk's level. Also, i cannot place them on the edges of the beds which are located behind my desk because that means that the amplifier has to sit in between the two beds, making the connection to my laptop impossible. One thing i could probably do is separate my desk and my roommates' desk as much as possible, so that i can place both speaker on the left and right side of my desk and placing the amplifier on the shelves located to my right. The only problem with that is the fact that the speakers will still stand too low above the ground. Do you recommend placing something underneath the stands to make them rise an extra 20 centimeters? Also the floor is not carpeted and the stand has spiked feet just so you know. Thanks!

First off headphones are a wonderful thing for dealing with room issues. Personally I would find the easiest place to set up the speakers and forget trying to have an optimum sweet spot for a stereo image and aim to get the best room coverage. I may even think switching to mono if need be. An option where you do get a stereo image could be to ditch the stands and use them on the desk top in a near field set up.

That could be done, but it would take up a hell of a lot of desk space. Also, ditching the stands are not a good solution because I would have bought them for no reason in that case.
