AKG K1000 Competitors? - Page 2

x2 on the AD700's. They faired very well at the NJ micro meet against the much more expensive AD2K's, and the K701s.

Of course this does not come close to anything like a Stax phone or the K1000, but you set a very restrictive dollar limit.

If you really have more budget, tvrboy has a great idea. The SR-001 mk 2 is under-appreciated around here, it is a great 'stat SS amp, with both pro and normal bias. Pair it with any used Stax you can find, and for maybe $450 your are in the ball park of "world's best". You're not actually in the game, but you made it inside the park.

How is the SQ of the Stax SR 5 with SRD6 amp?

Can not think of anything!
A nice Lambda may be the closest, but good luck finding one for $100.

Vintage SR-Lambda + energizer. It should cost around $300 which comes up from time to time in the FS forum. With the energizer though, you would need a speaker amp to power it.

What is the cheapest electrostatic earspeaker on market? I decided not to buy a SR-5 + SRD 6 combo for $120.

I don't have that big a budget.

I'm not sure you can find anything under $100 that beats your HD580 let alone a K1000...

hurryup is my least favourite troll.
If he stopped trying to buy a giant killer for <$100 he could have a $400 setup by now

Nothing in your budget will be "competition" to the K1000 or Stax you're talking about. If you want to find Stax for under $100, you can probably get lucky on a SR5/SRD6 combo if you live on ebay.com ebay.co.uk and ebay.de for a while.

And the DT48 sounds absolutely NOTHING like the K1000 or Stax, unless the latter are at the very end of their life.

The AD700 is a fine recommendation for something that you can always find for under $100, although I'd probably save some money by getting the AD500.
