Opinions on these vs a5's?

I doubt the S730 will even touch the A5 unless you really prefer to have bass thump over midrange and highs. Their size will not produce the soundstage, deepness and richness of the mids offered by the A5 not to mention detailed highs. "Computer speakers" in general lack the ability to be resolving, and often don't sound good but just loud (even though I do like edifier products over logitechs).

Maybe someone who has heard both can chime in, but a lot of reviews by consumers will say the edifier sounds good to them because their standards are not as high

The A5's are nice but plan on buying a subwoofer or you may be disappointed...

You will never get a straight answer for the "best" anything. Ferguson Hill has a nice set for $1000. You could get some nice monitors in that price range too.
