I keep reading about these mods and I want to give some a try but at the same time I am very happy with the stock sound and I just don't think I trust myself to tear apart a $300 pair of headphones, especially when they are the only ones I have now that my 770's are sold off.

I don't blame you for hesitating but if and when you finally take the plunge, you'll wonder why you waited.  Venting the drivers does not rob you of treble.  It lets your drivers breathe and provides you with the bass you are missing.  This, in turn, allows you to get that bass without overcranking the volume.  The result is an improvement to both the bass and the treble.  It's a better tonal balance that works.  After trying it on a 325is, I was utterly thrilled with the result.

Any idea why Grado wouldn't design them this way in the first place?

To my knowledge, the PS1000 already has 3 holes punched in the back.

I play guitar and need a pair of headphones soley for practicing. I've have been lucky enough to audition the DT990, Sr-125i, sr-325i and a few others, I loved the Grado sound.  But I have called every Grado dealer within 300 miles and none of them has the 225i available to audition. I would love to hear the difference for myself, but it sounds like a lot of people prefer the sr 225i if a proper amp isn't in the picture, which is my case.

Yh I have the sr60i's at the moment and I am willing to spend up to 200 buck, so is this a good buy?
