After conducting a literature review, Grills identified a "very high Santa awareness" among children. He determined that Santa made a reckless role model, noting his frequent cookie snacks, occasional cigars and refusal to don a helmet during "extreme sports such as roof surfing and chimney jumping."

"Santa is a late adopter of evidence-based behavior change and continues to sport a rotund, sedentary image," Grills wrote.

IMO, If you're afraid of your other knowing the true you, then you ought to get another other who can accept you as you are, faults and all (including your audio addiction).

Ok, so I've got this friend, and he's spent way too much (by any reasonable standard and even by some rather unreasonable standards) on all sorts of audio gear, not the least of which is a totally retarded headphone collection. But it makes him happy. So where's the crime in that? Why does he need to justify it, even to himself? He should be a happy, jolly Santa, and not be worried that some dork thinks he's setting a bad example for kids because he eats junk food, has a big belly, and has all sorts of ladies swooning over him... and his headphones!

About $400 for my entire headphone setup and perfectly content with it

With the parts I currently have, I spent about $600. However, I have upgraded every part once, so the transition didn't impact my wallet as much. Retail value however, my parts are worth over $1000, but I got some pretty good deals

I'm not sure. If you count everything, including the parts waiting to be built into gear (I have something like eight amps boxed and ready for free time, not to mention two speaker amps, a preamp and the Orion+), then somewhere north of $20k.

That might sound ridiculous, but I've been amassing gear and parts for four years. Averaged, that's $5k a year and - not to brag - but a bit less than 5% of my income. So it's a bit of cash but I don't think I've been irresponsible. I could more than break even if I cashed out, too.

And this doesn't include the music, either. The LPs and SACDs add up, too, but I have no idea what I've spent on those. Just small amounts over quite a few years now.

This is probably the end of it, too. If I can (somehow) manage to find a job with a 40 hour week, I can get through the projects inside of a year. I'll need to spend a couple thousand more on aluminum for cases, wire, ancillary parts, etc., but the collection will cover pretty much all the amp topologies out there and give me a lifetime of listening and exploring how all these variations work together. I'll probably pick up the occasional top-tier new headphones and continue to add music. That'll just cost a few hundred a year.
