Audio Technica ATH-CK10 - Page 87

Well, my CK10 just arrived so I guess I'm part of the club now too, yay!  I haven't had much time to test them out yet, but I just wanted to chime in and say OH MY GOD THE CABLE.  Every single IEM in the world should use this cable -- all of our lives would be better.  I might post some impressions later, but there are already a lot of good ones throughout this thread from users much more experienced than me.

do these actually rival the SE535's?

or at this level, is it just a matter of taste?

I'm looking to upgrade from my Monster coppers.

I have had a chance to test the SE535's and I definitely liked them better than the coppers.

But I keep hearing such great things about these ATH-CK10's!

Definitely a matter of taste at this level. These will be even more contrasting to the Coppers than the Shures. They have a lighter, leaner, clearer more transparent signature than both. Kind of treble lenient and the bass is a tad lighter than the Shures.

A matter of taste for sure. THe 535s and Coppers are closer in signature than with the CK10 for sure. So, if you're looking to stick with a similar signature, then the 535s are it (among the choices you've mentioned, of course) IMO. However, if you're like me and want to see what other signatures there are out there, the CK10 is definitely worth a shot. There is the possibility you will not like it but there also the possibility you'll love it, like I did.

The CK10 extends pretty deep in the bass department but there isnt a helluva lot of quantity tho. I amp them with an Arrow 2G and kick the bass boost to 1. Sweetness to my ears, I say. biggrin.gif

All I have is the PA2V2 for amping my headphones....

It is alright, but I barely notice the difference.

I think I might want to try the CK10's since it's so easy to re-sell if I don't actually like them.

Is there a good place to grab them?  I have a USA and a Canada shipping address, so I'm pretty flexible on where they come from.

I think, the best price I recently saw was $290 or so.

I would like to try and find low 2's at least.  If that's still possible.

wow, these are expensive now.  haha.  if you manage to get a good seal, bass quantity is adequate.  however, adequate is not the amount most people look for.

I'd say check the FS forums to see if you can pick up a slightly used one for a decent price. Brand new, they're still kinda pricy, I would reckon. I got mine used from a forumer on a local audiophile forum here for a meagre $140. Possibly one of the best purchases I made.

Agreed! No memory and no microphonics to speak of.

ya, I keep hearing bass will be "just enough" syndrome.  Never ample.

But if I can find a pair for under $200 I don't think I can go wrong then.

I guess the hunt is on.  Unless I find a Se535 pair for a steal somewhere along the lines! :)

No question.  The cable has spoiled me.

Well, so far I'm loving almost everything about these.  I absolutely love the sound, the cable, the look, and the overall build quality.  Compared to my westone 2's the sound is much more engaging and enjoyable (to me).  Sadly the comfort is lacking for me, and I might end up having to part with these if I can't manage to get used to them, but I'm hoping I can sort the comfort issues out because otherwise these have blown me away so far.

You're the 2nd person I've read of on this thread with fit issues. It really is a shame cuz these really are amazing IEMs. I absolutely love the way they sound. I guess I must be lucky as the medium stock tips work best for me and none of the other 3rd party options (Sony hybrids, MC tri-flanges, Comply) did much for me on that front. I really hope you manage to find a fit solution for them as its such a shame IMO to let go of these.

You could also try comply TS tips and Monster Supertips. These foam tip options are good both in comfort and isolation.

I for one had no problem finding the perfect fit right away, with Sony hybrids. No comfort issues really, isolation and seal were so good, the cable was amazing, bass...well coming from RE0 I knew what to expect; sound blew me away anyway...
The thing is in a matter of minutes the left earpiece caused me so much pain that the ear canal, the outer ear and eventually the left cheek started to hurt. The right earpiece just disappeared, the left one gave me hell.
I had to set them aside until the pain subsides.
Now, everytime I fetch them from the pouch, and I wrap the cable around the left pinna, I can sense my ear canal tightening as a pavlovian reaction triggered by the anticipation...you know, like when you see a needle and suddenly your buttocks throb with fear biggrin.gif
