Looking for quality portable headphones for cowon s9

Hi guys,
I'm looking to replace my porta pro with a new pair of portable/travel headphones. I want to spend around 100$. My main source is cowon s9. I'm looking for headphones with warm sound signature, good, but not overwhelming bass, quite good separation, not fatiguing sound, some isolation would be also nice. Most of the time I listen to different kinds of rock.
So here are my types:
- akg k450
- yuin g2a
- sennheiser px200-II

I was thinking also about other option. Instead of buying smallsize headphones for portable and travel use, stay with my iems for everyday use and buy ath m50 for travel. And here is my other question, is the SQ significantly better on ath m50 rather than on akg k450, or yuin g2a?

So what are your types? I would appreciate all kind of help.

hi ,sorry dont have eny of those phones you mention, but im intrested in getting a cowon s9, Are they good players? whats the volume output like,does it sound powerfull ? and does it have a 10 band equlizer ?

Well the RE0 has nice bass, good separation and decent isolation. It may be a little on the cold side however. How about those new thinksound Rains? They seem like they'd fit pretty well.

@lucozade Well in my opinion s9 is a really good player. Sound quality is, in my opinion better than in iTouch 2g. I really appreciate extremly good battery life and great support of file format (audio/video). It's also easy to navigate without taking it out of your pocket, which is a big advantage for me. If you ask about powerful sound, cowon has quite big power reserve. It doesn't have 10 bang EQ, but it has parametric EQ, which together with bbe+ settings makes cowons sound easly customizable.


And know, can anyone help me with my dilemma?

EDIT thanks semisight, but I already have iems. Now I'm looking to upgrade from my porta pro and I don't know if it makes sense buying again small allround headphones like akg, or it'll be better soundwise to buy bigger cans like ath m50.

Thanks agara, one more queston though, does the s9 support apple lossless files,and can you drag and drop them from itunes, thanks

Have you thought about getting Sennhieser ie8 s, i know these are iems but they give a big powerfull sound like full sized cans, and have a huge soundstage and are warm, also they resond very well to eq if wish to tame the bass a bit, and are highly detailed and accurate.

As I wrote I have iems already (super.fi 5). Now I'm looking for fullsize headphones with a good synergy with s9, an upgrade after porta pro.

I had the PX-200 but not the PX-200 II with my S9. I'm not sure how different the two headphones are.

I didn't like them AT ALL for outdoor/portable use. Virtually no isolation, made my ears sweaty, and I swear they managed to magnify wind noises. I wouldn't use them for travel since they have little isolation.

that's why I thought about px200-II instead of old px200. I've read on headroom.com that new px200 are major improvement to old ones.

Although I've to admit that I'm most interested in SQ differences between akg k450, yuin g2a, audiotechnica m50 (of course driven straight out of s9).

The G2A isolate very little, if at all. Not sure if that's a major concern; just throwing it out there. The PX200-II isolates significantly more.

I concur, but don't forget to mention that they'll also magnify a crying baby behind you on the bus or plane.




I have the S9, It is and ****ing awesome player!

I am leaning towards the px200's just because I have audited them. Keep in mind they won't sound as nearly as good as your SF5Pros but don't sound bad either. I personally would look more into a case for your IEM's first.

I hope you're leaning towards the new version of px200, cause i've listened to the old one lately and they sounded terrible, much worse than porta pro.
I've read few reviews and I'm deciding now between ath m50 and akg k450. I think they both will be a significant upgrade after porta pro, but I still don't which one will combine better with the s9.
