Mon 22nd Feb - London Meet - The Square Mile - Page 3

Ai! I'd forgotten all about this!

Sorry all.

Have written it on my hand and will give the Counting House a bell after work to book a time. Maybe last week of Feb?

Any particular day not good for anyone? Was thinking after work rather than a weekend day might be more convenient for most?

Let me know.

Alright guys,

I booked a closed room in the Counting House pub (Cornhill near Bank station) for after work on:

Monday 22nd Feb

If no one can make that then I can change it but can I get a show of yays and nays for this arrangement?

long-time lurker/not attended one of these before - anyone who's been before can tell me what the deal is i.e. how many people likely to turn up, what you should bring etc? (headphones sure, but source-wise, music etc? is it mostly people who know each other from previous meets? and is it a case of taking over a corner of a pub for a few hours, talk and audition stuff over a few beers etc?) or have I misunderstood due to not knowing what IC in the thread title stands for? :-)

very likely myself and 1-3 friends interested - have various fairly decent kit that I'm not sure, but may be of interest - Grado RS1, Denon AH-D5000, Sennheiser IE8 - stuff like that - tbh slightly disappointed with all of it and would like to see what else is out there - basically mean to audition this time before buying more stuff that might also not really be what I'm after

(and btw yeah 22nd would be fine for us I'm sure.. )

dsmudger,
I've never been to one either, but wanted to, so organised one.

EDIT: IC means interest check, I'll change the thread title now.

Others who have before can perhaps comment on conventions, I reckon just each bring an item or two the others might want to audition, have a pint or two (keep in in moderation until the gear is safely put away again) and exhange impressions?

I've booked a room that has a closable door so will be quiet, especially on a monday evening.

Cool, so that's four of us then. See you then.

dsmudger,
RS1 and IE8 are two I really want to hear so would love you to bring them along.

I have the HD650 (unbalanced) and someone else further up the thread said they could bring an balanced pair, I think they are pretty hard headphones to beat.

Ok if people are going then please state what equiptment you will be bringing.
(also will this closed room have power outlets for us to plug into? and will it be quiet enough for listening?).

If I come I can bring:
Cavalli CTH Hybrid tube amp,
Yamaha HP-3, HP50S (and mayybee YH-1000 since they are on FS now) headphones.
I also have a V-DAC and Onkyo ND-S1 transport which are possibilities.
I have an iMod, but now do not have a dock to use it with...its just fs.

But im only down as a possible atm.

Eddie: update the first post to have a list of all confirmed attendees and their equiptment.

If you asked for Rules, I think these are sensible:
No eating or drinking whilst using the gear,
No hair gel...
Treat the gear carefully

Turn up like you just stepped out of the shower, everyones stuff leaves in the same condition it came in, and leaves with the correct people. Beyond that it's common sense.

Kabeer seeing as you're selling stuff, what orthos will you be bringing this time? I wanna see how my amp does with them (35% volume is loud in balanced mode with my HD650s).

I definitely look forward to hearing a high-end Grado and Denon.

Does anyone have a laptop with optical out? Otherwise I'll use USB.
I'll have to bring my external drive for my music though.

I'll bring the tangible contents of my Head-Fi signature

Kabeer has a point though - how quiet WILL it be? How many power outlets will there be?

What time are we looking at?

Good rules P4Z .

Well I think the only ortho I have left for sale are my spare Yamaha YH-1000s (for the moment) since the others I had fs are sold or pending now. I wrote above your post which I would likely be bringing along.

My profile has all my gear if you wanna check it out.

Thanks for the input guys, will update the first post comprehensively after work.

Definitely agree on everyone washing their hair on the day!

Was already planning to set up the room so there was an area for peoples drinks, and an area for people's gear and a "line" that does not get crossed with one into the other.

More to come later...

Parafeed,
I thought most people would have better things to do with their weekend days.

But if that is a wide spread view, this can always be re-arranged.

I havn't done this before so am playing it by ear.

What do people reckon?

EDIT:

Another issue is noise - on a Monday evening a closed room in a pub will be pretty much silent, on a weekend day might be trickier to find a suitable venue without paying for it...

Suitcase containing gear inside+ a blanket/the original packaging? Anyway that's my plan..
I'll bring my (surge protecting) 6-way splitter in case it's necessary...

I'll have to PM the guys from the last meet who might not know about this one.

CAN'T WAIT

EddieE would you mind editing an attending/kit list into your first post ?

Will update the first post comprehensively after 5 - I shouldn't even be on the internet now! Should be hard at work!

Parafeed, it's cool I didn't think you were whining. This one will probably be a small meet but maybe those who come could form an organising committe for a proper UK wide weekend meet?
