We've all (well almost) had someone who we've had to shade the color of the truth to get past a purchase. Be it spouse/friend, parent, boss, etc., creative accounting has been used in many an extreme situation to get past them.

Give us who and how your best success stories have worked.

Always round down or approximate by orders of magnitude.

Fortunately, I live around very reasonable people/econ majors, so of my friends, pretty much everyone accepts the "different preferences" idea.

I've used that (not w/ headphones yet as I'm a newb) or I just say that I can return them w/in their 30 days, or whatever, if they don't work out.
