Best way to store cords?

My ER6is broke recently, when the right earbud just completely stopped working. Some things that I read online suggested that this might be due to wiring issues, and that made me wonder - is it safe to just wrap the cords around my iPod and then leave it in my pocket for several hours?

I'd never heard anything about it being bad, so that's what I've always done. It stretched the cords out and kept them from being straight in the end, since they conformed to the shape of my iPod. So my second question is, is there a better storage method for when I'm out/at school?

A small case is probably the best way. Wrapping cords around your portable device is a no-no.

Any recommendations for a case for earbuds? Could do with one for the RE0's I have on order...

Simple clamshells can be found for quite cheap. If you want some particular branding it'll cost a little extra.

Hmm, guess I've been doing it wrong for a while then. The cords are still being wrapped in the case, but I'm guessing the important difference is that they're no longer taut?

Do you think it would be ok if I looped the cords and then used some sort of tie to hold them loosely together? It seems that would achieve the same purpose as the case, just without the crush protection.

YouTube - Ultimate Earbud Wrapping Technique

Why pay for a case when you can just be smart? =D

yes the video and host is unbearable but skip to 1:11 to get the good parts.

you can use your ipod as a substitute to your hand if you don't want to use a zip tie.

The "over/under" technique to cord storage is the best way to make sure that you aren't putting undue stress on the cable. This method will also keep your cord from getting the "memory" that builds up over time. It seems cumbersome at first, but with a few tries, it will feel natural. Once you've rolled it, just throw it in a cheap case.

LOL! Who would want to protect their crappy iPod stock earbuds? That's hilarious, great start to the day Anyway, I put my UM3X in it's own clam case. It's a pain to take them out of its case, plug them into my Walkman and 20 minutes later I have to pack it up again though Well, I guess it's better than wrapping it around the walkman...

I wrap the cord somewhat loosely around three fingers and then put the IEMs in a case (either UE metal case or Pelican 1010). I hate those Shure clamshells, both the new and old versions.

the older shure case was worse imo :P the new one was just as bad but at least they didnt have that circular thing inside.

altoids can works for me as does the UE metal case. also unrelated but..i feel like this question has been asked a lot lately

i try to do the over under, but i have no idea if i'm doing it right. all the videos for it are bad, especially the hack college one. i always get this weird twist when i try to go under.

on second though, the "regular roll" "roll away" seems to work for me...

I use the fastening wires that come along with any new cable, equipment you puchase,I'am sure everyone bins them, but they are handy for creasting a loop of the excess headphone cable, this way you are ensured that the cable doen't strain itself very much.

I don't keep it plugged in and wrap it around the device, i unplug it and just loop it up lightly and put then in my pants pockets. I had of ER6i's break in the same way

Has anyone tried those player cases (DLO makes one) with the headphone storage on the back built into the case? Or will this also cause undo stress on the headphone (along with the bulk that is added).
