How is it "refreshing" to poke fun at people who don't know any better (and likely don't even care to know any more) about personal audio? What does it matter to you what your friend considers a good pair of headphones? Snobbery plain and simple as jageur272 already pointed out.

I'm just glad I convinced my best friend to buy SE530's ... everyone else, it's not really my problem so I just say nothing (however I get a ton of weird looks when I take a second glance at someone's headphones/IEMs when I think I see something mid to hi-fi and turn out to be wrong ... that's always awkward!).

For me, it's not worth it to say anything because I'm not gonna lie, there is quite a big gap in price between Skullcandys and Senn IE8 for example, so the few times I try to explain, people just turn it on me and laugh at me for blowing a ton of money for "no reason." To each his own I guess.
