Paypal account got jacked

I caught wind of a phony payment out to ncsoft out in Britain. I reside in the States. Then an unauthorized personal payment came in immediately after. It was welcome since the money was more than the phony payment set to ncsoft, but unauthorized nonetheless from someone I didn't know. I thought for a second my account was being used as a store front. Paypal immediately put my account on hold after the person who's money was missing from that payment filed a report. Anyone here have something similar happen to them? I thought Paypal was supposed to make buying and selling safer? They always advertise that bs on sites. After this is sorted, I'm closing my account for good. I guess that means I won't be able to buy and sell on ebay anymore.

...and one more reason for me not to use PayPal.

The problem is that none of your electronic info is really safe from anyone who has some know how and cares to get it. Paypal is annoying, but it does a fair job, and it is often the best way to go for buying anything online.

my account was put on hold for no reason at all just recently and it took a couple of days of needless emails, scanning my passport, ids and other stuff before they lifted the ban.

I had a problem with paypal, I must say, what happened to you looks to be a mistake.
It still sucks, and while I don't like paypal, not many options exist. I have been doing all my ebaying, and am awaiting the release of the fiio e9, after which I will close my paypal account again, and for good. Sorry to hear that fenix......

I guess my choices now are to pay on secure sites with my credit card and amazon. I'm still fairly well protected with LifeLock. I signed up after my credit and bank accounts were stolen twice. I guess I should close the account and only open one up long enough for a big purchase before closing it again. I agree that is safest.

Someone tried to take money from mine too but it was detected as someone else making the payment and they instantly put my account on hold, making me do something to confirm it was me and restore the account.

I don't see what the problem is really. They delt with it well. I didn't lose any money and neither will you.

Either you have really bad luck or aren't taking the proper precautions.

Unfortunately, systems aren't secure or fool-proof. I've been charged twice on a UPS account that I created a while back for some shipping charges, both times it was a mistake and someone else had entered the wrong info. I got the charges reversed after calling them up and explaining things. I'm sure PayPal has this kind of thing happen occasionally, so they should be equipped to deal with it. I do sympathize though...sucks when stuff like that happens.

I probably make 90% of all non-necessity purchases online, do all of my banking at 2 institutions online, invest online, and monitor/pay my credit cards online. All of this, and paypal, and I've never once had a blip on the radar.

Unless Paypal has security issues we don't know about, either: Your password was easy to guess, or, some malware on your computer sent your password to hackers. Can't think of any other way this would happen.

Have had over 200 Paypal transactions with never a blip, both as a buyer and seller on ebay.
There protection is not perfect but then nothing is,I like the fact that one company has my CC information and they pay all others.
I even make a point of buying from stores with Paypal, just makes everything so easy.
And if there is a problem that Paypal seem unable to fix or you want that extra security there is chargeback.

same here... I use paypal quite a bit. I use online banking and pay with cards online all the time. I just use strong passwords and common sense.

I rather use Paypal that keep sending my credit card information to many sellers. Never have had any problems.
LifeLock sounds pretty good. I may end up getting it. Anybody else uses it?

I'm very careful. I don't browse unknown sites. I stick to my usual safe web routines and keep purchases online to a minimum. Must be my luck. I've had this paypal account for over 6 years now with no problems. Perhaps my luck ran out.

My password was very unique and next to impossible to guess. lol
