The PTN04050C is also going to put switching noise on the power input. I don't know if the iPod has any kind of a filter. You may need to put a decent filter on the input. A 100uF cap is required, but a pi-filter might be needed.

Hmm, I will probibly do some testing later this week. After building it I think I will use a scope to check out ripple from the PS as well as the audio input, I will have to get into the EE lab though.
