Aha, so Philips mp3-players are not recommendable? All I need to know is if Philips PMPs/DAPs are worth having regarding good sound quality.

No, not if SQ is an important factor. I'll give you a couple of recommendable types: Cowon i9, Sansa Clip or Clip +, Sony E or S series.

Does anyone agree with Cosmic Fool? If so I'll be done with this thread.

FullSound = iPod + non-lineout + $150 amp - the output power.
That is all.

As stated before, in fact Philips mp3-players have excellent SQ (at least the higher models). They win comparison reviews in German hifi magazines on a regular basis against Cowons, Sansas and Sonys. It's only their half-baked firmware that lets them down. And Fullsound is a gimmick that adds more hiss than SQ.

Higher models? I'm curious...

what model?? opus??
post #23 of 24
Yes, the GoGear SA5285/BT (that I had) and the Opus which is the newer model. But even the smaller Ariaz has been rated very good for SQ.

I read about the GoGear SA5285/BT. Nice little device but I think a Sansa Clip (+) or Sony S-series is better for what I'm looking for, maybe a Cowon D2.

Thanks for the information.
