Can you recommend any portable CD players with a line-out? I'm planning on getting a portable amp, so I assume line-out will offer better SQ, right?

Old Sony Discmans are probably your best bet, Line out quality varies so be sure to do some research before you choose. I have a asian market D-EJ01 which has pretty good line out although I use it's optical out to my AMB gamma2.

I can highly recommend the Sony units that have optical out and then pair it with an iBasso D10 dac/amp

My rather simple but awkwardly designed Philips AX2400 has the line out too and worked very well with my Monitor 10s from 1978. Philips has some good products too.

The link below leads to a thread with a compiled list of PCDPs that has a digital/optical line out. As for vintage PCPDs with analog line out I would recommend the Sony D-311, D-303, D-25 or 25s, D-515, D-321 , D-E900 or D-E905, and the D-777 to name a few. Be aware that the older Sony PCDPs (the ones made prior to 1992 when anti shock weren't available yet) don't fair well going portable as they skip quite easily.

I have a trio of iRiver iMP-550's which work very well for me via their TOSLINK output. These PCDP's are a bit hard to find, but boast great battery life and a host of other features.
