Another Help With Cmoy Headphone Amp Post

Thread Starter
Hey there everyone,

I'm another total noob electronics enthusiast and I've been working on my very own CMOY headphone amp to power my sennheiser 600 cans. I'm havign lots of trouble with distortion and low level signal. My pot is also coming in backwards i'm using the alps 0097 and when I turn it on, it's coming up at top volume and as I wipe away from the on position it fades down, so I'm guessing maybe some wiring is awry but as far as I can tell it's all good. I've done a few hours of trouble shooting and I'm just ready for some advice. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

For the pot, with the pot facing you (shaft) and pins down, you will see two rows of 3 pins each, and a pair of pins at the back which are the switch.

For the two rows of 3 pins each, one row is channel A and the other channel B. The left pin in each row will be to ground, the center pin goes to the amp input, and the right pin goes to the input jack.

As for distortion, post some pics of the top and bottom at high enough resolution that we can see (and make fun of) your solder joints.

How are you powering it and what opamp are you using?

Fix the pot and a lot of your problems will go away. Either your source or your input is wired to the "ground" pin of the pot, and that's going to cause a lot of distortion issues.

You can test this theory by temporarily bypassing the pot and using the volume controls on your source to set the level.
