ATH-M50 + Mixamp=? - Page 2

Here's a question for all of you M50 experts - can you help me out and explain the differences between these:

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones

Audio-Technica ATH-M50S Monitor Headphones with Straight Cable

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Professional Studio monitor Headphones

It looks like each one just has a different cable option, is that the case? They each have their own product listing on Amazon and it's a bit confusing. Thanks!

Gear mentioned in this thread:

The M50 is the coiled-cable version.
The M50S is the straight-cable version.

I don't know why there are two listings for the coiled M50 on Amazon.

I use both the M50s and AD700 for gaming with the MixAmp. If I want impact then I use my M50s but if I want open soundstage and comfort I go for the AD700.

Which one did you end up getting?

Sorry for ressurecting an old thread, but I have been gaming with the AD700s, DT880/32, and M50s. The M50s are AWESOME with the Mixamp. The soundstage is obviously not as good as the AD700s or DT880s, but for a closed headphone (that isolates INCREDIBLY well), they have a more than enough soundstage. They have a solid impact for gaming, GREAT positional cues, and ENOUGH soundstage to even do great in competitions. I have absolutely no issues gaming with them late at night when my girlfriend is asleep right next to me. Hell, I'd use them during the day when my DT880s get itchy on the ears.

The A40 mixamp will make almost any headphone sound good with its Dolby Encoding. But the M50s are great headphones and you won't be disappointed by their sound quality.

I completely agree. The Mixamp will make practically any headphone worthwhile for gaming, even some Philips SHP2500 ($20) and the Senn HD201s ($20), which I prefer both over the actual Astro A40s themselves.

However, a lot of headphones have such a tight soundstage that makes them pretty bad for gaming. The M50s have enough soundstage to put them in the worthy closed gaming headphones camp.

Yea. I (luckily) had the Sennheiser 555s so using them with the Mixamp was heaven for CoD4 and Halo 3.

I've had the M50's for a while and am thinking about pairing them up with the Mixamp too. I'd really like to hear what pseudohippy's impressions are.

This thread is very relevant to me, as i own an Astro Mixamp and hope to get a pair of M50's within the next week after doing some research. I will give my impressions once i get the headphones.
