This should be a warning to anyone who shows up here "reviewing" goods for which they receive compensation... (including free gear)

I brought this up at the time, but people didn't seem that interested..

Well done posting it. I'm sorry I missed it. The responses in that thread also show a certain fundamental lack of understanding about how these guidelines might possibly apply to stuff that happens here.

I would think that of particular interest to members and MOTs would be Section 255.0, along with Example 8; Section 255.1(d), along with Examples 3 and 5; and Section 255.5, along with Examples 7, 8, and 9.

how would FTC ever enforce these rules?

Easily, an offended competitor reports the offender to the FTC.

FTC and the NAD are very active in this area. And Grawk is right; interest generally is sparked by a complaint by a competitor.
