If you mean the plastic ring on the inside of the chamber as seen in the pictures, yes. Both plastic parts are replaced with a seamless aluminum chamber.

Are the magnum V1 drivers grado? Will it still sound like a grado? Is this whole deal kind of like allesandro is with grado? Are you getting specialty made drivers from grado?

I'm confused about the whole product.

Good to know. No way I afford this now, but it's definitely something I'd be interested in the future.

One question though - why not replace the L/R blocks too as an extra?

The ugliest part of the Grado ensemble by a mile. Some nice aluminium ones with rod lock screws would be an extra that would complete this mod pretty well.

Indeed, what I want to know is what the base driver really is. Most likely a SR-225i or something similar.

I think they are modifying SR-325is drivers.

Well, they're certainly not keeping the ones in our cans as a core. So that might be the case... but I would never do this if it wasn't grado drivers. I want grado sound.

I might look into this down the road though, or try to pick up some magnums second hand.

i read it in a previous Magnum thread that most of the Grado headphones uses the same drivers, the only difference being different damping material used. so if you strip away the damping materials, they will all end up sounding the same. so i'm quite positive that the drivers used in the Magnum mod will be that same basic driver.

a review somewhere said that the mod made his headphone sounds like a mini HP1000, so you should still have the grado sound, especially if the drivers used are grado drivers as well.

We get our 325i drivers back... so if we just sent you the casing and kept our 325i drivers on us, we'd be just as well and saving you work? (Also, sending a cable for the part would be helpful, I know)

Utilizing damped aluminum sound chambers and custom drivers, Magnum is for the one who demands a serious upgrade for their Grado or Alessandro Headphones.

Air Chamber: Treated Aluminum Alloy
Ear Cup Support: Press-Fit Aluminum, Chromed rods for added friction
Rod Tips: Aluminum
Drivers: Series 1. Dual coating. Matched to 0.01db

- Do i get my original drivers back? Yes.
So the consensus best guess is that Rhydon is getting 325is drivers, dipping them twice in some kind of liquid coating, or once each in two kinds of coatings, then carefully matching them to each other and mounting them in custom aluminum chambers, and finally "tricking" our headphones out with chromed rods and aluminum trim?

well i wouldnt say 325is drivers, but some kind of Grado drivers, and the chromed rods and trim is only if you get the full mod. if you get the lite, then you won't get the rods and trims.

Prior to my doing a lot of reading into this product, I need to know two things:

One, it says that we are going to get our old drivers back, does that mean we'll recieve 1 set of headphones, and a pair of discarded drivers? (so theoretically, I could grab my girlfriend's SR80's, drop the SR325i drivers into them, and send you the hollowed out SR325i shell with a spare cable?)

Also, will you be accepting orders in the June/July time frame? I could probably be looking to order mid to late june (for my birthday present to myself)...

I got a little stupid question here, if I do get the Lite version, would the mod be upgradeable to full version at a later time for $200 ?! (Mainly thinking about the gimbals entry size in the cups, are they different ?)
