Vista audio crackling and popping?

When I used my HD485's plugged directly into the headphone out of my laptop, I would always hear an obnoxious and loud crackling and popping sounds when listening to music. I assumed that this was just an issue with the onboard sound so I ordered the Nuforce uDac since I needed improvement with sound quality when listening to music through my laptop. It arrived today and although the sound quality is much better I was very annoyed when right of the bat, about 30 seconds into a song, I heard the same crackling and popping that I heard before. I'm pretty sure that this problem is not a result of the onboard sound since I disabled it now that I'm using the uDac and I don't think it can be the fault of the uDac either since I had this problem prior to using it. I've looked into the subject and it seems that many other Vista users have this issue. Some people said that disabling all sound enhancements via the control panel fixed the problem, but I've already done this and the popping persists. I would really like if anyone could provide some input on as to how to fix this issue. I would really hate having already spent $100 on the uDac to have this problem continue because it honestly makes listening to music unbearable.

Any replies are appreciated. Thanks.

try this: DPC Latency Checker

if you ever see red bars, you need to find the windows driver that's messing w/ your nerves(WiFi?)

Thanks. I'm now pretty sure that my wireless networking card is causing this. I disabled it in Device Manager and the popping stopped completely. Upon enabling it again it started up immediately. Is there any way to stop the card from interfering with my audio? I always listen to music when I'm on the internet and I wouldn't like if I were doomed to always hear cracks and pops while using it.

try to locate any compatible driver(both from the mobo manufacturer and the chip manufacturer) and try them all

for instance, the latest drivers for my PCI ATA133 card give nasty red spikes in this app...but the previous version is perfectly fine.

last option will be whining to their tech support, but it'll prolly be a dead end..

leeperry, you sir, are the man....I have had popping and cracking for a long time, actually paid for the full winamp pro thinking that was the deal, ragged out logitech for their crappy systems...so on...
ran the dpc latency, had red bars at a regular interval, disabled wi fi and no bars....wow...

This machine should be able to handle real-time streaming of audio and/or video data without drop-outs.
Nothing in the red...

Thanks

We should probably have a sticky or at least a good dedicated thread that covers PC (Windows) optimization for glitch free audio. Mention and explain the DPC Latency Checker along with other config settings and troubleshooting steps that can help with latency and other conflicts. Getting glitch free audio on a PC can sometimes be a challenge.

I also experience cracking/popping sound under Vista x64 with my ESI u24 USB soundcard. Checked that DPC latency program, everything seems normal, no red bars. I upgraded to the latest ESI soundcard drivers for vista x64 (theyre pretty recent), still the same. Any thoughts?

When I use foobar with ASIO dll, everything is fine, as it bypasses all that Vista interface crap. But when I try to watch a movie (selecting various methods of output, e.g. directsound, waveout), there is always this very annoying crackling/poping. Thought to move to win7 because of this, but maybe there's a cure?

Check for SATA and USB driver updates. This is how I fixed my staticy choppy sound problems in Vista. I tried Ati mobility updates, Sigmatel audio driver updates, and Dell wireless driver updates to no avail.. The DPC latency program now shows no red spikes and audio is pristine.
