On sound quality alone, un-EQ'd, is the Sony as good as the Clip? I'm thinking about getting the Sony for ultra portable setup, instead of my old Clip.

I would say that the sound quality of the NWZ-E443 is much better.

Thanks, are there more views on this? I was under the impression that the Clip is one of the very best, and it sure wipes the floor with my Cowon D2+, when un-EQ'd (D2+ wins on EQ and DSP settings though, and can be set to bring out the best of any phones)

I have listened to a Sansa Fuze and a Sony E-344 side by side.

un-EQ'd there is a difference in Sound Signature between the two players and is truly up to personal choice.

The Fuze has a very balanced SQ where you can hear every sound/instrument/vocals at an equal volume providing a more bright in your face sound.
The Sony emphasizes vocals above instruments providing a more darker laid back sound.
Personally i would choose the Sansa un-ED'd.

BUT that being said with the EQ ON the Sony does better than the Fuze in my opinion. You can get the sound you want out of the player based on the various genres of music-and best part is you have 2 EQ settings that are saved. Which is ultimately why i bought the Sony instead of the Sansa.

If you need capacity then go for the Clip/Fuze due to expandable memory. But if all you need is 8GB/4GB and you can manage it well, then go for the sony, with the excellet EQ that will allow you to bring out the sound you wish.

Also if you listen to the Radio the Sony is much better than the Fuze by a long shot.

In the end i highly recommend you listen to both.

Thanks, that made me decide to not swap my Clip, as I am after a very balanced/neutral sounding un-EQ'd sound sig.
