This is a Red Wine Audio modified "iMod" 4th generation Apple iPod. 40gb hard drive, enough for about 50 uncompressed CDs or 100 CDs using Apple Lossless Compression.

$200 includes shipping in US48 and all paypal etc.

The RWA mod alone is $250! So, for $200 you get the mod PLUS the iPod!

The G4 iPod is a little old now (2004), but RWA modifies ONLY the G4 and G5 because of the higher-quality Wolfson DAC chips in these units. The "iMod" takes the output straight off the DAC to the 1/8" headphone output (becomes line out), bypassing all sorts of junk.

Read about the "iMod" at RWA's website here:

Products > iMod - Red Wine Audio

The result is a very nice sounding source -- better than most any portable source, good enough for a pretty good home system, and MUCH better than the stock iPod. Note that the volume control is disabled because the headphone out becomes a line out. Combine with a portable headphone amp for a great portable system!

Also, this iPod has a six month old replacement hard drive. Hard drives wear out after a while. So, if you went and bought a G4 iPod and then paid RWA another $250 (plus shipping etc.) to modify it, the hard drive might still crap out six months later. The new hard drive cost about $100 right there.

The 40gb hard drive is a little small by today's standards, but with capacity for 50 uncompressed CDs or 100 CDs using lossless compression, it is still large enough for most people.

So, if you want a good source to go with your Ray Samuels etc. portable headamp, this is an excellent option.
