Been away for a while, need advice.

I sold all my portable players and most of my HPs a while back due to some hearing issues, so I've been out of the loop. I now find that I need a small portable to run through my car stereo so I can keep up with all the new music I have but have barely gotten to listen to. I need your advice..

I need a portable with:
~8GB storage (flash)
- decent sound quality (I'll be running it in a noisy car)
- drag and drop file transfer capability....I HATE proprietary software requirenents
- FLAC is a must
- decent build quality
- ability to simultaneously charge and run in a car (not "required" but would be appreciated)

Beyond those qualities everything else is gravy. Don't need video (in the car...sheesh!), don't need color, don't need a radio.

....cheapniss would be Okee Dokee too!

Wouldn't you be better off with a car based solution? This site Talk Audio Forums - Powered by vBulletin is brilliant. If you don't know it already. Ask there and standby for some good advice IME.

My present car stereo has an MP3 jack so, due to bugetary considerations, I'd rather keep the car stereo I have. It would also be nice to be able to hook this up to a set of powered speakers to run when I'm mutilating fish in the lab.

Sansa Clip or Fuze. Cheap, has a lot of good reviews, drag and drop, plays FLAC, descent build quality, can be charged out of the cigarette lighter, although you may need a car adapter, and best of all cheap. And you can also buy a micro SD to expand memory.

Sounds like the ticket. I've seen some decent reviews of the Sansas.

What's the diff between the clip and clip +?
Clip doesn't have expandable memory where the Clip+ does, and the Clip has a detachable clip where the Clip+ Doesn't.
