Does ReplayGain add enough headroom for the iPod EQ?

(Skip to second paragraph to skip backstory)
Let me start by saying that I've fairly recently purchased a pair of A700's to replace my lost er-6i's, and the one thing that rather irks me about the Audio Technica's is the substantial dip in response at around 2.5kHz. Looking at a graph of the iPod's 'Acoustic' EQ link I realized it might help smooth out the A700's response quite a bit, and after a quick test, it really did, but of course at the all to heavy cost of distortion. So basically, I'm looking for a way to let me add that EQ without the distortion, and at the moment I'm converting my replaygain values to apple's soundcheck, hoping that'll be a viable solution.

So then my question is, does ReplayGain add enough headroom that I shouldn't need to worry that the ~3.6dB increase of the Acoustic EQ might cause some songs to clip?

Well, it looks like headroom isn't the only issue with the iPod's EQ. After converting ReplayGain values to Soundcheck, distortion with the EQ is still rampant. One of the tracks that distorts the worst of all of them was even brought down 7.1dB, so headroom couldn't possibly be the issue. Unless maybe it's adjusting the -7.1dB after adding the EQ...

Look at MP3Gain. I made an entire thread about "Fixing the iPod's EQ" here:
