Some Painfully-Learned Advice Relating to Carbonated Drinks

Don't drink them on a very empty stomach. Woke up this morning/afternoon at 1pm - it's holidays - and decided I felt like some coke while I made my breakfast. One gulp and I was keeled over in pain and my stomach hasn't felt right all day.

Learn from my mistake. Eat something before you drink something carbonated.

Logan's Tips for Pulling an All-Nighter:

Drink tea, eat real food. DON'T DRINK SODA.

Same basic concept. You live, you learn, man.

Chug Cola on empty stomach for several months -> big diabetes risk.

I disagree with that. Best all-nighters I've pulled were accompanied by friends, junk food and multiple bottles of coke each. It's all good as long as there's food in your stomach.

Here's some advice. Don't drink the full strength stuff. Drink the stuff with carcinogenic artificial sweetners if you have to. It'll keep you far healthier in the long run.

I'm talking about the "HOLY SH!T I HAVE A PAPER DUE IN 3 HOURS" kind of all-nighter.

Drinking several glasses of water each day will greatly improve the chances of flushing out any particulates that could cause a kidney stone. If you have ever passed a stone you would likely NOT drink any soda again.

I never really liked the colas. The stuff that I drink that is remotely closed to soda is ginger ale. I usually just enjoy a nice glass of cider.

Cola to me is only ever bearable when it's cold.

Not to mention they're bad for the teeth. My dentist has practically all but forbidden me to drink any sort of sweetened carbonated drinks...

I don't drink it that often and I'm still young and can practically eat anything I want right now so I'll take advantage of that while I can. I can imgine if I drank a decent amount every day my teeth would fall out of my head and my belly out of my shirt though. This stuff was the diet and caffeine free stuff dad got though.

I've actually had an easier time pulling all-nighters without caffeine or soda. I quit soda about 18 months ago and caffeine a little over a year ago.

Best I've ever felt. Getting off caffeine was vicious the first few days. I had headaches and felt like warmed over death. Then everything was good. I feel more awake in the morning and can stay up late now and then without it. Complete opposite of what I expected - it feels like I did in childhood before caffeine. I assumed I felt that good because I was young, but the same feeling is back 30 years on.

And I don't miss soda at all. I take a sip every few months and have lost my taste for it. It's terrible for you - even just the calories. I can't post photos from the phone, but GIS for the sugar content of soda. You'll find pictures of sugar cubes stacked nex to bottles and cans representing how much is inside. If a 12 oz. can has 120 calories, some of the big cups at fast food shops and convenience stores will give you 600 or more calories in a cup. That could be more than 25% of your daily calorie intake.

Cut that out of your diet and you will find the spare pounds disappearing. I'm glad I switched to water and won't go back. I also bought an aluminum water bottle I take around. I fill it with tapwater and take it with me. That's saved probably a few thousand dollars over buying soda or bottled water.

I actually think the tap water here in Canberra taste better than bottled water. Bottled water tastes empty and sterile - as I suppose it should - but the tap water has a very slight tinge of taste to it and it's nice. It's barely anything but it makes it nicer to drink. My dad's brought me up to drink heaps of water.

Is it treated aluminium? I'm pretty sure that aluminium has been linked to alzheimers.

Everything with a pH other than 7 is bad for your teeth.
Vinegar, Salt (mixed with saliva), Cola, Corn. It's all bad for your teeth.
