>edit: i apologize, this is NOT a schurter! i am sorry for the misinformation. the schurter is actually pretty good qaulity. this philmore is a dangerous pos! i have no idea how it is ul certified! this is apparently one of those utlra budget "junk" manufacturers. avoid at all cost, imo!
hi guys, i don't know if anyone has any experience with the philmore-datek(schurter) iec(philmore-datek.com part no. 8522). mine was very poor. guess you get what you pay for? all $3 worth!
it says "fit's up to 14awg wire". total bs. more like 24awg max! which is obviously not for power cords!
to use 14awg, i had to use crimp rings. that was ok with me though. then the clamp does fit not over the jacket of the 14awg shielded cable! i had to clamp just the wires. to me that is too unsafe. i ended up throwing away $40 of belden cable
i guess i could have just snipped it and saved most all of it but i was just miffed. so i chucked the whole thing after an hour of putzing that should have taken me 20 minutes.
i say forget these philmore/schurters. ymmv, or is this already common knowledge around here? i saw some sites with diy cables used these. i don't know ever how though.
sorry for the rant, i just wanted to give a heads up to anyone that saw this on a shelf for an "impulse" $3. don't even waste $3 imo. feel free to say "what did you expect for $3?". still, this is electricity we are playing with here! anything electrical should be as rated imo! yes, it is ul listed in fact.
