Clear box tape as screen protector?

I would not like to pay a rather large amount of money for what's essentially a piece of clear tape. So I have a roll of clear box tape (not Scotch!) here.
Put simply, would that work? Can I just place this over the screen, glue it down slowly, cut the excess?

It could work, but tape is very soft and will scratch/tear quickly.

It would work and it would probably get rid of bubbles better than a screen protector. the downside is that over time heat will cause that tape to really adhere to the screen When you take it off to change it you might need to try to scrape residue off the screen. I would spring 8 bucks for some generic screen protectors and cut them down to the size you need.

Bad idea. Find someplace local that sells them for a few bucks. You'll save yourself a lot of time and frustration if you get the right tool for the job.
