Which DIY Amp for D5000s - Page 2

I can vouch for my Lisa III sounding great with my woodied and recabled D2000 (basically an LA2000) so the PPAv2 should sound similarly fantastic. as stated keep the gain around 2, in fact the denons can even handle unity with the output diamond buffer being the main benefit of the PPA in this case. dont get a tube amp for them, you end up with too much of a good thing IMO, ending with a syrupy warm sound without much dynamism. also as mentioned above keeping gain low with tubes is doable, but not normally part of the design. also tube choices become a bit limited when going very low gain

This is really great news for me!

Do you know where I can find more detailed instructions on how to adjust the gain on my incoming PPA? I was hoping to practice on my cmoy first.

Ok, so I feel like a dumbass now... I knew that. About how much does a completed m3 cost? (with a case, psu, and amp)

Edit: So I think I've got it down to these 3 choices.

MiniMax - $220
PPAv2 - $100-150 (maybe?)
M3 - ?

Since I've only make a CMoy before I'd like to think I'm ready for the MiniMax but I'm not sure. I wouldn't be in any rush so I could learn as I go, but would it be a better idea to make a PPAv2 first? The MiniMax is what I really want, I just don't want to mess anything up.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how would the MiniMax, PPAv2, and M3 compare.

Thanks for all the help so far guys.

not sure if tangent has ppa-v1 boards left or not but that could also be in the running. its an easier build since no device matching is needed and you can start off with 1 chip of buffering to keep cost down. no reason to spend a lot on the op-amps, either.

lately, I used my normally not-used pimeta-v2 and I'd have to throw that in the running, as well. I cannot tell the diff, audibly, between the ppa series and the pimeta. its quite good and very cheap to build.

Okay, thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'll defiantly have to do some more research before I make a decision. Thanks again!

Just to throw some more reading on you... Look into the SOHA II, it is my personal favorite partner to my 5000's.

Hey Eclipse I know this is a really old thread but I'm curious. What did you end up doing for an amp for your Denons?
