Touch or S9

Thread Starter
I have been looking at these two players for a while. From reading various posts, the S9 seems to be the better sounding player but how does it compare to a 32gb 3rd generation ipod through the lineout to a xin reference amp?

I had the S9 a few months back and I didn't like the SQ at all. I'm not an expert so the only thing I can say is that both the Cowon D2+ (head phone out) and Ipod Classic (line out) sound much better. Especially Ipod with line out. Haven't heard the newest Touch, but I hear that it has same SQ as Classic.
Sound quality and touchscreen of S9 sucked IMO, although the awesome screen and avi.-support was great.
Although - if you are a fan oflots of sound settings maybe the S9 is for you. It has lots of it. Many like the new Viva setting of the S9.

SQ depends on a lot of factors, including the headphones. I had a D2 (with the D2+ firmware upgrade) and replaced it with the S9 - I thought the S9 was superior with the two main cans I use (PK1 / HD600) and the amps I use.

I've never had an iPod Touch, so I can't compare it with that.

If you need drag and drop, want to play videos without converting, AMOLED screen, vastly superior battery life and user created interfaces, go with the S9. When I got to try out the S9, I didn't like the BBE sound enhancements. Putting it on BBE Viva (I think that was the name) made it sound pretty good, but the other enhancements really made it sound artificial. EQ was nice too.

Otherwise, I'd go for the touch. Tons of useful apps with great sound.
