Buying FOTM in the 'heat of the moment"

Any regrets? What was it that you bought?
I bought two items but have no regrets.

1) JVC Marshmellows were FOTM about 2.5 years ago. I paid $10.00 @ Circuit City. At low listening levels they are fine. Crank up the volume and the inaccuracies set in. No regrets.

2) Current FOTM is the uDac by NuForce. I bought one. No regrets as of yet. I am in day 4. I may revisit this thread in 6 months and see if I feel the same way.

Regrets: I have enough to litter the electronic landscape but I do not want to hog all of the Head-Fi server space.

I regret buying the Audio-gd Compass during the FOTM craze. At first listen it sounds ok, but when you compare it to other gear in that price range and even lower price ranges, it falls flat.

^From what I heard at the Omaha meet, I feel the same way.

I think Marshmallows were the only FOTM I ever bought. The main reason I did so was because of their low price. I don't think I would ever spend a significant amount of money on something I was just curious about. As for the Marshmallows, I still use them on a regular basis at the gym.

I purchased the Skullcandy Titan because I was angry with Headroom's placement of it on it's ten best headphones list. I confirmed my suspicion it's inclusion was/is misguided.

Proline 2500
MS1

Neither can ended up doing much for me, and I sold the first and traded the second not long after I got them. The lesson I learned about paying attention to who is saying what on this forum, and not just believing what people post was, however, an invaluable one. I've pretty lucky and get to go to a lot of meets. I haven't bought anything I haven't heard first since those two headphones.

The HF-2, I guess. I pulled out a credit card and ordered within an hour or two of announcement. It's alright and I listen to it now and then, but it mostly sleeps in the box.

I bought the AKG K81 DJ's during the FOTM phase, I rarely listen to them nowadays because the SQ isn't all that. I don't have any real regrets however because you get a lot of bang for the buck, I can't really think of another closed portable phone with the same build quality and isolation for the price.

Speaking of Macbooks: and this is not to bash Apple so hopefully the flaming will not start...I had a G4 Notebook with Tiger. I was not impressed. Sold it at a major league lo$$ and moved on.

Sansa clip about a year and a bit ago.
Amazing for the price

1) Trends UD-10.1... It's a great piece of equipment, but I realized too late that I bought it for the wrong reasons. It did its job very well, but it would have served me best if I already had a high-quality DAC to use with it. I did not, so my limited budget after purchasing the Trends left me with mediocre options when all was said and done.

2) JVC HA-RX900... No longer own, but no regrets. I learned a lot about what I like/dislike in a headphone from my experience with the RX900, and the modification page I made seems to have helped out a few people along the way. Win for everyone.

3) Soundmagic PL-50... No longer own, but no regrets. A very solid performer.

4) Head-Direct RE0... still own, and the jury is still out on whether I regret it or not. It's a fantastic IEM, to be sure, but I can't keep my wandering eye off of the IE8...

He he he. Don't worry, I won't do anything rash right now. Besides, I still need to make some custom sleeves for the RE0! I've got all of my materials ready, and the stages planned out in my head. Now I'm just waiting for availability that my audiologist friend has to make some impressions for me.

The pictorial DIY thread that I'll make for endeavor will be... epic. (I hope)

I too jumped on the HF2 the day it was announced (had number 39). It wasnt even FOTM yet, really... more of a gold rush to claim one before they sold out.

In the end, I sold it promptly - its sound is not to my taste.
