Man, the LD MK VII is very very tempting.. considering that I have the DacMagic myside, it would be a very nice budget dac system..
But its younger brother, the LD MK VI is seriously seriously tempting as their flagship model.
I'm not sure about you guys, but tube amps seems to be "better" and "smoother" than SS amps.
Their apperance is a total winner, with 3 output somemore, 1 SE, 1 2x 3 pin xlr, 1 1x 4pin xlr.
According to my calculation, the mk vi is around 166.67% the price of the mk vii.
Which is~$588 SGD against $1056 SGD.

I know if I am building a budget system, the vii would be a very very good choice, as at its price range, there are really not much balanced amp out there with 4 pin xlr output.
But I wonder, will it last me ?
The VI is so tempting... >.<

Yeah but it's freaking huge compared to the VII/VII+. The VII+ would be great with the LD CDP and DAC. They can just sit on top of each other, great fordesk space. It comes down to how much desk space you have and wether you like tubes or not. Cost shouldn't really be a factor, after all, it isn't THAT much more expensive.
Yeap about the size, thats the only main factor that is bothering me, been thinking all night about how to restructure my desk haha.
Haha, never though about going full LD combo, cdp, dac_1, vii+ haha.
Yeah true about the price, their amps are quite affordable.

Man, I have been searching over head fi, and I always looking at threads with ld mk vi, not the ld mk vi+, which has interior problems like cooling fan issue, and is a balanced amp only, whereas the ldmk vi+, the latest one has both SE and balanced.

So between mk vii+ and mk vi+, its a choice of space, cost, feasibility and SQ ?
Really wish there is a mk vii+ vs mk vi+ thread around =(

Well put it this way, do you like the warm, textured sound of tubes or do you prefer the bright, detailed sound of Solid State? Sorry if this has been mentioned but what cans are you planning on using with the setup?

Balanced akg k701.

possibly the balanced hd650, but for now, lets just say balanced akg k701

Get solid state then, not many users like the K701 with tubes. Sennheiser are better with tube amps, AKG with solid state.

I run balanced CD3000's through the MK Vll and comparing it with the MAD Ear + it wins by a big margin, forget about the price of the MK Vll it would still be a great amp at twice the price.

What are the technical differences between the two? I looked at photos of the insides of both the VII and VII+, and the caps appear to have been changed.

Some opamps are replaced with discrete transistors. Other than that, no major difference.

MKVII+ has a lower gain and is better for low impediance cans like Grado's and Denons

Not sure how the VII sounds but the VI with 5998 and ECC35 tubes is a real treat with my HD600/650.
