I sense a touch of irony, I never realised Austrians had a sense of humour.

Seriously, if an MP3 player would excel at one genre of music and sound iffy with another one, it would be a very bad MP3 player. Not to mention you can't even define genres like that - for classical you have your grand orchestras or your string quartets; for jazz you have your big bands or your trios, and so on. I have never heard an MP3 player that 'prefers' any kind of music to another one. Headphones, yes, definitely - but not players. Hope that helps.

The Sony player Sparky191 mentioned a few posts ago is different in that it isn't flat by default. Sony tweaks their players to have a kind of loudness curve / EQ by default, making them sound more 'exciting'. Other manufacturers don't do that, to the best of my knowledge.

I should have stooped to your level and insulted you and your country with something about British dental hygiene... now that would have been totally humorous.

Again DFKT, you manage to miss all the important parts. My iPod touch I use exclusively for trance while my Fuze plays jazz and my Sony picks up on rock and soundtracks. My AMP3 sits on top of an outboard amp providing it with walk around fun whilst I do dishes.

I think my case isn't unique either - music is a compartMENTAL experiment. .... .... ....

Not sure what to make of that sentence... 'again' what? Which important parts? I see you use different players for different kinds of music - but that hardly means that there is a huge difference between these players' sonic qualities when you ABX them volume-matched, flat, without EQ, and with the same phones. Certainly not enough to make one player better suited for a whole genre of music than the next one.

I use different players for different applications too, and they do sound different as well - because their EQs and sound enhancements are different, Cowon BBE vs. Rockbox vs. what-have-you. But I don't think that's what the original poster meant to ask.
