Westone 2 - Page 2

yes, the soundstage and the mids, I hear so much more details even the um2 are supposed to have a recent mids. The mids on the w2 sound fuller and stronger(the vocals presentation on the W2 is more accurate, in "Umbrella" Rihanna is everywhere and I am not missing a single note like on the um2) and like I said before, only on my Iriver x20(which is not in Bass at all) I'm missing a little bit Bass, but it's fine on a Sony with clear bass +1 and -1 at 400 Hz I am not missing anything compared to the um2.

what is your setting for the W2 on your Sony?

I am happy that I could test the W2 on my brothers Sony, I am going to buy the S545 which is a newer model, so I am optimistic about that...

I always wanted to change my gear, the x20 is now 3 years old and the battery is dying...(and I need more space)

I set clearbass to +1 and that's it for the W2. It gives that extra amount of bass impact which I think is needed. Otherwise, without the extra bass, it sounds sterile and boring on some songs.

I like to feel the energy of the songs that I'm listening to. For rock music, I like the UM2 better.

exactly, Clear Bass +1, not more!!! it's almost Perfect! it puts some weight in, what is really important and makes the sound generally better.

(it always can be better tho)

the x20 sounds like the Sony without EQ when it comes to bass amount.

alright, the Vocals and the guitars are more in your face with the Um2, so I understand your point, the um2 delivers Euphoria like no other in-ear I have ever heard!

but the mids on the W2 are better(see above) and the W2 rock at least 90% as much as the Um2(Sony with Clear Bass) + 20 % the Sound is advanced(technically speaking+mids and soundstage) = 110% of the UM2 sound.

the soundsignature is where the W3 gets avoided by me. The W2 is still mids driven like the um2, but with more highs and like 15% less Bass.(Sony with Clear Bass fixes that)

I would always recommend the W2 as the better and maybe the best Dual Driver(non-custom), worth every penny.

now the UM2 would be a downgrade, I can't go back after listening to the W2.

The W2 is better for classical and acoustic music. You would also probably like the Fisher DBA-02. I sold mine because of how the housing sat against and irritated my ear. In terms of sound signature, it was very hard for me to decide which one I liked better. They both are neutral iems but the W2 has better soundstage and the DBA-02 has better imaging. I kept the W2 because they are extremely comfortable to wear.

I am really pissed that the Iriver X20 doesn't do justice to the real power of the W2 bass....

without the EQ fix, there would a problem with the W2, I don't know much about the low end, because I haven't owned a Bass-Monster yet, so I don't care, but what I do care about, is like you said in your previous posting, the energy in the Music, the Weight in the Bass.... the "Clear Bass" works fine, that makes me happy.

I can not imagine to sell the W2 now. they sound really cool, laid back, mature.

so, the Cowon D2+ works well with the W2? the bassproblem is not really important for the W2 right? because they don't go that deep. and I can boost the bass with the D2+(good EQ?)

I am asking because I am still bidding for a Cowon D2+ 8 GB(SDHC Card will follow), I am ready to lose 85 Bucks(Euros), not more.

any experiences in bass boosting the W2 on the D2+?

I also have the Cowon D2 flashed with earlier D2+ firmware and rockbox firmware. The D2/D2+ is notorious for bass roll-off so I set the BBE+ enhancement all the way to +10 and set the mach3bass up a few notches. Both the D2+ and rockbox firmware have great EQ's. No need to worry there. What I do notice is that it is a very detailed sounding dap but at the expense of soundstaging. The Sony on the other hand, has better soundstaging, sounds warmer, but not as detailed. The Sony also has a great EQ.

sounds like I should go with the Sony... and sounds like the difference between my iriver x20 and the sony walkman my Brother owns...

but I am curious about both DPAs. On the sony I can only use " clear bass " and the 400 Hz recession to put weight in the bass, not more. The other gimmicks are not important to me.

do I have more options on the Cowon D2+ and which is boosting the bass on the W2 better?

For me bass boosting it is better and easier with the Sony. I just set clearbass to +1 and I'm done. I have to set BBE+ to +10 and mach3bass to +3 or +4 on the Cowon to get a similar level of bass, but the bass still sounds better with the Sony.

that helps, thank you.

I hope I am not going have to buy the Cowon D2+, now I prefer a Sony DAP.

Depends on what iem's you're coming from and what sound signatures you're used to. If you're coming from anything bassy you'll be shocked because W2's are of moderate bass. The bass the op is talking about is actually a midbass hump, becasue the westone's do not not have a particularly strong sub bass.

You will need a good seal with them to hear the bass well. You will also need a good source because westone iem's are really really sensitive to noise. If none of the tips fit you well  I would suggest the shure olives.
