Sold: Stax SR-5NB + Fitz modified amp

Originally purchased from this sale, I gather this rig has been around Head-fi a bit. As a basic Stax rig, it is very good, the SR-5NB headphones being somewhat the "Stax Grado" and very hard to find other than in Germany (where they show up all the time). The amp/driver is one of the Stax battery-powered ones that has been modified and re-cased by Fitz to work using a wallwart instead, with RCA inputs (so it no longer can use batteries). Both the SR-5NB and the amp are normal bias and the wall-wart supports 100-240V so should work fine anywhere. It's also fairly generic so readily replaceable. Since the rig isn't getting used much, I'm considering that it should probably find a better home.

Most importantly, the rig sounds excellent and, despite being 1992-era will embarrass much newer dynamic headphone rigs. While I was doing some re-organisation and unable to use my main rig, I plugged this rig into a Compass and was yet again surprised at how good it is, despite my now owning far better gear.

I'm looking to see if someone has a much greater need than mine to take it off my hands. If I do go ahead and sell it, I'd like what I paid for it, $380 + shipping + Paypal fees.

This rig is now for sale as a complete rig.  Sorry I wont split.  International EMS shipping with tracking wont be that expensive for it either.

What voltage does the wallwart do? 100/110 or 220/240?

Nobody wants a bargain Stax rig?

This used to be mine, and I agree with everything Currawong said about it.  They are indeed a great entry to the Stax world, with that gorgeous fast, smooth treble that only planars can deliver.

Considering the title of the thread says "SOLD" what do you think?
