What are some good headphones for under 50$? I saw the HD201s already, are there any better ones or is this is way to go?

JVC HA-RX700 is a popular recommendation. Do you plan on doing any gaming?

A real cheap choice is Koss Porta Pro. Although not a fantastic performer I think that it delivers the best "bang for the buck" in that price range, and at the same time being very light foldable.

I would recommend the HD 218's for $43.99 shipped on buy.com. I have the 238's and love them, but my girlfriend just got the 218's a few days ago and I think they sound great for the price.

thanks for the suggestion lanksky (sorry for name butchering) but koss portapros look like they're open. i would really like closed ones so i get some isolation.

It's $55 shipped at B&H. If $5 kills it for you, let me know and I'll spot you a five.

Personally I'd save up a bit more $$ and buy something a bit better than <$50 price range
