Budget GPS Nav for car, does this exist?

I'd like to get one @ 100$US or below if possible. Funds are kinda tight right now.

On the other hand, I really think i'll need/want the kind that can show traffic and has options like Fastest Route, Shortest Route (etc). And I know some of those have a monthly fee.

So throw it at me, what's the best Automobile GPS Navigation solution for a penny-pincher?

TomTom's pretty good too. I got a TomTom One XL for $125 about 2 years ago. At the time, reviews said it was the fastest at recalculating your route if you missed a turn. Other brands had more bells and whistles, but calculating a route is the main function of a GPS. If it doesn't do that well, I don't want it. I have no idea if it's still true though.

I've only used TomTom GPS systems. I had an early one for a few years, but upgraded to (IIRC) a 920 earlier this year so I could use hands-free with my cell.

You might want to check TomTom's site for their refurbished units. I don't remember what I paid, but recall it was about $200 less than a new one.

My LG unit which was $130CDN in 2007 has performed flawlessly over these past 2 years, I've depended on it for exams, interviews, and similarly important things, and I got where I needed to be just fine .

The key is learning to intuit the way the thing searches for routes and gives directions. If you fail to learn this, even an expensive GPS will just frustrate you.

LG might be an 'off' brand, but having used 2x more expensive tom toms and garmins, sometimes they actually manage to be worse. Tom Tom is superior to Garmin, however, the Garmin Nuvi 265 I used was very basic, trying to be simple and functional like an Apple product but missing the point entirely.

That's a pretty funny clip. Yeah, GPS can tell you to do stupid things. Mine's told me to turn on to non existing roads or the wrong way on one way streets. It's really funny when it's database doesn't have the road you're on and it's trying to figure out how to give you directions.
