I just finished modding my CAL! with a re-cable and ear-cup dampening. I thought I'd share some observations that would be of interest to anyone trying to adapt the well documented Denon AH-D1001 mods.
1) Ear pads and driver baffle are removed exactly the same as D1001.
2) The ear-cup on the CAL! is removable and held in by two additional screws.
3) The cable is held in place differently than the D1001 and you actually need to remove the ear-cup in order to get to it.
4) Being removable, the ear-cup is easier to apply dampening (Dynamat) to. It also appears to have less molded protrusions that have to be cut around which is nice.
That's all folks! Happy modding!
Clarification: By "removable" I mean that the back of the cup comes off of the driver/frame assembly, not that the entire cup is removable from the head band, though this is true also for both the CAL! and the D1001.
