SR 80 next grado step

Hi folks,

After much research I purchased the Grado SR 80 and have been very happy with the sound signature. I have been using them unamped from various sources.

I'm now looking to take the next step up the grado ladder but I'm not sure where to go.

I'm in a difficult situation as I don't live where I can go and try good quality cans on. Basically what I'm looking for is the best bang for buck step on the grado ladder and from what I've read once I move up I will have to start looking at an amp.

So which grado will give me the best bang for buck upgrade?

SR-225 You will be able to live with it forever (seriously), but the upgrade bug may bite. But seriously, the SR-225 are some seriously good cans! They do not really need an amp but a tube amp makes them sound very nice and warm with a great textured bass that I will always love

+1 for the 225. Of course it depends on your budget. The next step beyond that would be the HF-2 or RS1.

For me, SR225 is the biggest waste of money when buying Grado because you get no more enjoyment than with the SR60, just pay more. I think you should go straight to the SR325is model. RS2i should be a bit better and much lighter but you pay almost twice that much.

I concur - go straight to the SR325 and avoid buyer's remorse over the SR225, especially if you cannot audition them so easily. When you do get that amp, you will gain that much more potential benefit with a better pair of headphones.
