What's THE best deal you've ever gotten on any audio gear, new or used. - Page 4

Got my SR225is for a hair over $150. Coupons and discounts are awesome.

Also, one of my father's co-workers gave me a 5.1 surround sound system. It's RCA so it's not very good, but hey, it was free.

Are they orthos?

they're not much to look at in the pictures but they're quite sexy in real life, the speakers are like 4cm deep if that and the whole front is the diaphram, gives them a very interesting sound signature..for the price extremely detailed, very snappy treble as well. If I have one complaint the mids are quite recessed. But really for cheap PC speakers I'm actually stunningly pleased. Beats the hell outta my previous £10 logitech ones that broke today:
Currys - Shop for PC Speakers - LOGITECH LS11 LGT LS11 Speakers

advent is one of the cheapy value brands in the UK, much like the Wharfedale Argos range..but seriously these are damn good, and the bass SLAMS!

Old Polk SDA line... I don't remember the model, but they were the ones in this pic:

I got a pair of those, a slim Kenwood integrated amp, and a Kenwood tuner... all for $25 at a garage sale. Steal of the century.

EDIT: By the way, this deal marked the very beginning of my descent into all things hi-fi. It was my senior year of high school, 2001.

Yet another time stamp on TopPop's not-so-lofty age.

You are assuming that I started high school 4 years earlier, my good sir. It takes some of us longer than others to achieve such goals.

Dunno if this qualifies, but....

In the early nineties I bought a new pair of Vandersteen speakers from a
guy who sold equipment out of his home (authorized dealer). He mentioned
that he also had an old unbuilt Dynaco SCA-80Q amp, so I bought it for
80 bucks. I almost put it together a number of times, but never did. Even
the parts boxes were still taped shut.

Fast forward to around 2000. I put it on ebay, hoping to at least get my
money back out of it. To my amazement, it sold for $630!

So that's where she ended up. I was the one who modded that.

Celestion UL60 Speakers from Ebay. $60 with shipping for a set of speakers that sold new in the early 80's for $500. Best of all one of the few things in my house not made in China.
