Honeymoon Suggestions? (beach only)

Thread Starter
Hi all!

I'm planning my honeymoon right now and it's not been easy! i can't find anything like what I'm looking for on the web.

I would like to go somewhere in south america
I would like the resort to be all-inclusive, or be very reasonably priced.
I would like to have my room on the beach, like a little house/veranda thingy.
I would like the country to be safe enough to explore....as we do enjoy exploring
I'm trying to keep the whole trip to under $5K for 6 nights in April.

Can anyone help with this? I'm at a complete loss right now!

Thanks so much everyone! You've never let me down yet!

Check out Panama..

beautiful and remarkably cheap. it's basically what Costa Rica was 10-15 yrs ago... although Costa Rica is still a great place to go as well.

personally, if i were you, i'd stretch a bit and go for something really exotic. i honeymooned in the Seychelles for two weeks... and it was worth every penny.

also, the Yucatan coast of Mexico is beautiful, and the food is fantastic (but the all-inclusives will be the usual bland crap).

check out Riviera Maya, starting about 90 minutes south of Cancun... Akumal, Tulum and southward. not too overdeveloped and beautiful water. lots of beachside stuff.

If you like all-inclusive packages, would you consider a cruise? You can go on a variety in South America for your budget. You'd get to explore and visit several countries.

You might also want to check around a few resorts in Mexico, as well. A friend of the family picked up a very nice timeshare in Mazatlan - you might be able to rent a timeshare, apartment, etc. for much less than a hotel.

x2 on the Riviera Maya. Great scenery and history and fairly inexpensive. It's a fairly popular tourist area though so you may want to take that into consideration.

not if you drive south of Cancun for about 90 minutes... it gets quite pristine and non-touristy.

check out Akumal... it's on a bay that has a turtle preserve and a little fishing village nearby. the food is great, the hotels are clean and the bay has calm water with fantastic snorkeling right off the shore... a sunken spanish galleon, green turtles, etc.

it's also very near some great ruins (Tulum and Coba) and cenotes.

I've heard bad stories of tourist who stranded off from the regular touring area in mexico, like getting jumped by the "cops"

it's great if you want a place where you know you're in the Caribbean somewhere but don't care to know exactly where. Mexico is pretty much erased from the picture once you enter Puerto Aventuras.

the food is meh, from what i tried, but if you want a pampering, huge resort that has everything you need a short walk away, PA is worth checking out.
