DAP SQ...same question as always...

I have a classic ipod right now with se530's. To be honest, with all the reading I did on IEM's I was pretty confident that when I recieved my new pair of Shure's that I would be stunned and awed at the SQ. I just recently started using my Ipod a lot which is why I wanted to upgrade my headphones for sq and comfortability and isolation since I use them on the train a lot. When I first listened to them, I was impressed, but days later they just didn't seem to live up to the hype. Now I know there are lots better headphones, but for someone like me with little to no experience with this stuff a 499 retail pair of IEM's would naturally be expected to sound good, and with my little experience not even knowing that there were IEM's that expensive, I guess my expectations were even a little high. None the less, I have since become addicted to this little hobby. My main question, is me not being that impressed with the Shures due to me using an Ipod Classic straight out of the headphone jack? I mean I can hear quite a bit of fuzz and the clarity just really isn't there in a lot of instances. I am interested in getting a real nice setup as I use it a lot. Money is really no issue. I was looking into gettin an iMOD with the alo rx amp or a mustang, and a set of jh13's. Now be honest with me, am I going to notice a huge difference if I were to go with a setup like this? By huge, I mean huge enough to really justify spending that kind of loot. I understand its hard to really put a 'worth it' label on a monetary difference between a ipod classic with se530s and an imod with amp and jh13's. I just dont want to go ahead and purchase this stuff and not really be impressed.
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Once again money is really no issue, but portability is. The biggest I'd go is an imod and either a mustang or an alo rx...

thanks

yes, you will hear a big difference, headamp is a must when using IEM like se530/triple.fi/er4/um3x/w3

.

imod rockbox'd with alo imod cable and rx amp with jh13's or
cowon s9 with amp and jh13's?

which one ... obviously cowon s9 combo is much cheaper but if money is no issue what would you go with?

Heh, I can't say I agree with this. The SE530/TF10/W3 do a great job straight out of my iTouch. Headamp will improve in some ways, but definitely not a must.

DAP suggestions for good/great SQ: HiFiMan HM-801, AMP3, Natioonite S:Flo2, alexMod. And recorders (SQ-centric, has no good user interface) Sony D50, M10, KORG MR1, Microtrack 2.

Diving into the most hi end gears would be your prerogative but I'll say take some caution. I too at times have been bit by this upgrade bug after seeing rave reviews of a product. Not having any reference also lead me to have unrealistic expectations, with the final result being an underwhelming appreciation towards the particular gear.

I am one that believes that this hobby is in part a connoisseurship activity.Sometimes one needs to get more learned and experienced so that they can relish and truly appreciate the audiophile qualities that higher end gears bring to the table and make your investments more worthwhile.

Teclast T51 SQ is a upgrade from any iPod, I've compared it to the 5th gen Video and 4th gen Nano. Also better than the Cowon D2. Got line out as well if you are thinking about getting an amp later down the road. Beware of the somewhat buggy firmware though..
