no!!!! what have you done to these lovely bassy headphones !

What an awesome mod! All you need to do now is to start up lmswjm Audio and popularize this mod.

Wow - bold move, and it looks fantastic. Congrats on one of the more interesting threads I've seen around these parts. Glad the headphones are more to your liking now - I'll be on the lookout for more folks doing this over time!

I tried both my Denon (mods and no mods) cans with open backs with results that didn't really impress me honestly. I was trying to balance the bass and the highs, but that did not send me in the right direction. The ear pads do the biggest change in sound IMO. The stiffened driver unit also helps out nicely.

He's made them a lot better sounding.

Kudos to OP. I'm a bit doubtful it sounds better than the HE5 though.

maybe better ! speculation is a ok but don't state it as fact !

well i tried it with the pads unhooked + gap. unfortunately it did not change the sound to my liking. I tried different positions but they all ended up sounding more or less like i was listening to speakers inside a shower.

The sound changed so much as I moved them around that I wouldn't be surprised if I could get it sounding good. I just decided to put them back on and listen to some tunes.

Thanks for the positive remarks everyone. Just wanted to share something that works for me. I would definitely like to bring these to a meet. I don't know of any in my region anytime soon though. The Westchester meeting coming this fall looks good, and I'd bring along my Audio-GD chain also.

Funny how the cheaper mods on these 'phones make the largest difference. Stuffing the pads, getting Jmoney pads, doing a cheap MarkL mod

...or putting Beyerdynamic DT880/990 velour pads...

Didn't think of that one because if i personally got one of the Denon's i'd pop on the JMoney pads.

Nice job!

Wow that's pretty bold. Nice modding. The Denons prove to be very moddable.

The same thing I am wondering. Velours pads sound lighter in the bass.
